Dr. Abhipsa Kar, MD

Education:

University of Wisconsin, Madison | Medical College of Wisconsin | University of California, Los Angeles

Dr. Abhipsa Kar’s parents introduced her to community service early in her childhood, organizing health fairs and educational events in their village in India. As she grew older she was encouraged to to find ways to contribute to her community’s well being. This led Dr. Kar to pursue a career in medicine.

While in medical school, she fell in love with family medicine and felt it was the one specialty that saw a person’s health within a larger context of socioeconomic status, politics, culture, and other factors. Dr. Kar explored this further by completing a year-long Community Medicine fellowship at Kaiser Permanente where she learned more about the intersection of politics and healthcare, how to provide good care for uninsured patients in a resource-limited setting, and how to implement projects to improve care in community clinics.

Dr. Kar joined Melody Health because she wanted to be part of an organization that advocates for comprehensive healthcare access, including reproductive care, for all. She believes providing primary care and basic health education to patients has the potential to transform lives.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Kar enjoys portrait drawing, watercolor painting, and modern embroidery. She also loves to dance and is currently learning to salsa. In college, she was on an Indian fusion dance team.
